FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHER RESOURCES from the LANGUAGE RESOURCE CENTERS. The Title VI Language Resource Centers offer many teaching and learning materials and resource sites for free on their website. A complete list of these materials is updated twice a year - Spring and Fall. To download a PDF, please click here. Feel free to share the list with your colleagues. SCOLA FOR THE PENN STATE COMMUNITY . SCOLA offers foreign language TV clips, supplemental instructional materials Penn State language instructors can now use clips of television programming in a variety of languages from around the world supplemented with instructional materials offered by SCOLA, a nonprofit educational organization. By taking short five-minute clips from broadcast news programs from around the world and adding transcripts, translations, vocabulary lists, and quizzes, SCOLA provides a complete package of materials for use in the classroom or by individual language students. SCOLA materials are ideal as a textbook supplement and suitable for use by an individual or a class to extend vocabulary, grammar, reading, and listening comprehension, as well as cultural awareness and an understanding of current events. To access these materials, which are updated weekly, visit the SCOLA site, maintained by Information Technology Services. Instructors can either download the video clips and instructional materials or link to them directly from their ANGEL course. In addition to the materials on the Web site, SCOLA programming in a variety of languages is also broadcast 24 hours a day on Penn State cable channel 29. ARABIC

Arabic K-12 Network. Developed by the National Capital Language Resource Center, Arabic K-12 Network provides lesson plans, textbook reviews, websites with teaching materials, links to authentic materials, and resources for purchasing Arabic language materials.

Arabic Voices . Online listening materials (TV video-recordings)and activities for learners of Arabic from Novice to Superior levels of proficiency. Housed at the Texas Language Technology Center at UT-Austin.

Teaching Arabic. This website has links to different Arabic language resources: Dialects, dictionaries, literature, slang, and sign language. It also has links to other resources related to Arabic, e.g., American Association of Teachers of Arabic, or The Victorian Arabic Language Teachers Association.

CHINESE

China Orbit. This website provides information about working, traveling, studying in China. You will find links and information regarding economic and business matters, cultural events and social issues.

Confucius Institute. The Confucius Institute Online is a resource for people around the world to learn Chinese and experience Chinese culture. They provide supporting materials to make learning Chinese FUN and EASY.

Cultural Interviews with Chinese-speaking Professionals. You will find a compilation of 225 brief video clips in which Chinese-speaking professionals discuss cultural issues. All of the videos clips are transcribed into traditional, simplified, and pinyin Chinese are are also translated into English. Created as a joint project by CIBER University of Texas-Austin and University of Hawaii.

Learn Chinese . An online learning web site sponsored by China Radio International. The learning materials not only focus on language skills, but also cover songs, idioms, movies, cuisine and other aspects of Chinese culture.

Speak Chinese . Sponsored by the China Internet Information Center, the page is a useful resource for learning Chinese language and culture

Learning Chinese Online . A web site created by Dr. Tianwei Xie (California State University at Long Beach). It provides a regularly updated compendium of links to other web sites on Chinese learning materials, Chinese programs, study abroad, bookstores, tools for Chinese teachers, and more.

Hanban . The official web site for "hanban", or the Office of Chinese Language Council International. It contains information related to Chinese tests, scholarships, Confucius Institutes, professional development for Chinese language teachers, and so on.

FRENCH

Frenchresources.info . This new French web site is a portal, which aims to facilitate access to resources on all aspects of French education. Developed under the auspices of several departments of the French Embassy in the U.S., the Delegation of Alliance Francaise, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Teach Europe . In its 6th year the Teach Europe program offers yearly workshop seminars intending to provide participants with fair and updated information about the European Union, its multicultural nature, its economy, role and impact on today's world, and its relations with the United States. It is a unique chance for specialists of the European Union and educators to meet and exchange knowledge and experience. This program also features a general website for the teachers and their students, and a pedagogical resources kit, for direct classroom use, will be given to all participants. More than 700 teachers have attended Teach Europe since its creation in 2003.The Teach Europe seminars are designed for high school teachers of Languages, Social Studies, and Art.

Tennessee Bob’s Famous French Links. This Globe-gate supersite has over 10,000 links to various aspects of the Francophone world.

TV5. TV5’s website has up-to-the-date broadcast and print news, and an archive of music videos and movie trailers, as well as several interactive pedagogical tools.

GERMAN

German History Source. German History in Documents and Images (GHDI) is a comprehensive collection of primary source materials documenting Germany's political, social, and cultural history from 1500 to the present. It comprises original German texts, all of which are accompanied by new English translations, and a wide range of visual imagery. The materials are presented in ten sections, which have been compiled by leading scholars. All of the materials can be downloaded free of charge for teaching, research, and related purposes.An initiative of the German Historical Institute in Washington, DC.

GROW - German Resources on the Web is a searchable database consisting of: 'Web resources', 'Web activities', Web exercises', and a 'List of projects'. Interested teachers can submit a 'teaching resource', which will be reviewed by the editorial board before being considered for inclusion in the database. Housed on the AATG web site.

Goethe Institut . The Institute's webpage includes resources for teaching and learning German.

KOREAN

Korean Language Education Clearinghouse. The Korean Language Education Clearinghouse was started in 2003 by Monash University and funded by the Korea Foundation to help share and distribute Korean language learning materials and information worldwide. KLEC aims to provide a wide range of resources and services for Korean language educators and learners, mostly free of charge.

Web Korean. This is a Korean language portal site.

RussNet. Russnet is a repository for Russian Language Resources which includes its own collection of Russian Language Modules. These are thematic learning modules that combine the learning of culture with the learning of Russian. Russnet is produced by The American Councils for International Education: ACTR/ACCELS.

Centro Virtual Cervantes. This website, created and maintained by the Spanish Instituto Cervantes since 1997, has the goal of contributing to the spread of the Spanish language and the Hispanic cultures. It has resources for Spanish teachers, students, translators, journalists and other professionals who work with the Spanish Language.

Super Spanish Websites. This site is designed for educators and students. Here you will find numerous sites that can be helpful in learning Spanish and about Hispanic cultures.

LESS COMMONLY TAUGHT LANGUAGES (LCTL)

CenAsiaNet. CenAsiaNet is a repository for Central Asian Language Resources which includes its own collection of Central Asian Language Modules. These are video and text-based learning modules that combine the learning of culture with the learning of Central Asian Languages.

e-LCTL . Resources include a catalogue of LCTL electronic teaching materials and distance learning courses for language teachers, planners, and funding agencies to find materials and collaborators for building distance learning language courses.

FL TEACH . The Foreign Language Teaching Forum is an integrated service for FL teachers. Topics include foreign language teaching methods for all levels and all languages including school/college articulation, training of student teachers, classroom activities, curriculum, and syllabus design.

Language Materials Project (LMP).

The UCLA Language Materials project is an online database of teaching and learning materials for 150 Less Commonly Taught Languages. The LMP is funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The site offers: bibliographic database of teaching materials; authentic materials and guide to their use; language profiles; K-12 materials and K-12 guide; partner databases; bulletin board.



LangNet. LangNet is a language learning support system with interactive materials designed for those who want to practice and maintain their target language reading and listening skills. Featured languages include Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Russian and many other Less Commonly Taught Languages.

LCT Course Offerings.This database, maintained by CARLA at the University of Minnesota, lists LCT courses offered in North American Schools.

MERLOT World Languages Portal. MERLOT World Languages Portalis an educational resource for teaching and learning languages with a wide variety of materials for use online and in the classroom.
