James P. Lantolf has served as Co-director of CALPER since it was established in 2002. He is also the Director of the Center for Language Acquisition in the College of the Liberal Arts.
Jim Lantolf, together with Matthew Poehner, leads CALPER's Dynamic Assessment project.
Karen E. Johnson is Co-Director of our National Language Resource Center. From 2002-2006 she also co-directed CALPER's Project Work Initiative and in the coming years will engage in a new project on "Heritage Language Teacher Education" with Joan Kelly Hall.
Gabriela Appel is the Program Coordinator of CALPER and is responsible for the overall administration of the grant and program activities, including project management, budgeting, publicity, and reporting. She also directs our Project Work Initiative during the current funding period.
Arlo J. Bensinger is the Technology Coordinator of CALPER. He also developed and maintains CALPER's CMC Tools.
Vickie Lucas has been with CALPER since 2004. She assists with administrative and functional aspects of our Language Resource Center. Vickie also maintains our "Calendar", which lists events of interest to language educators and researchers and CALPER's extensive E-News subscription database.



Project Directors:

Joan Kelly Hall joined our National Language Resource Center as co-director of CALPER's "Heritage Language Teacher Education" project in our new grant cycle. Since July 2006, she has also been serving as Head of the Department of Applied Linguistics at Penn State.
Celeste Kinginger has been director of CALPER's "Study Abroad" project since 2002 and will continue to direct the expansion of the project in the new grant cycle. She is Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics in the Department of Applied Linguistics at Penn State.
Xiaofei Lu is Assistant Professor of Applied Linguistics in the Department of Applied Linguistics at Penn State. He joined our LRC in 2006 and co-directs CALPER's "Learner Corpora" Project with Michael McCarthy.
Michael McCarthy has been directing CALPER's "Learner Corpora" project since 2002. He is Professor Emeritus of Applied Linguistics at the University of Nottingham, UK and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Applied Linguistics at Penn State.
Junko Mori directs CALPER's Japanese project on "Learning through Listening towards Advanced Japanese". She is Associate Professor of Japanese in the Department of East Asian Languages and Literature at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Matthew Poehner joined CALPER in August 2006 as Co-director of the "Dynamic Assessment" project. Currently, he is assistant professor of World Languages Education and Applied Linguistics at Penn State.
Jonathon Reinhardt has been with CALPER since 2006, and is directing CALPER's "Technologies" project together with Steven Thorne. He is Assistant Professor of English Language/Linguistics at the University of Arizona.
Susan G. Strauss is Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics at Penn State. She directs the CALPER Korean project. She is Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics in the Department of Applied Linguistics at Penn State.
Hongyin Tao directs CALPER's Chinese project.
He is Professor of Chinese language and linguistics in the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at UCLA.
Steven L. Thorne who leads our "Technologies" project, is also CALPER's Advisor for Mediated Learning. He is Assistant Professor of Linguistics and Applied Language Studies and the Associate Director of the Center for Language Acquisition at Penn State.



Coordinator for Evaluation:

Dorothy H. Evensen is responsible for the ongoing internal evaluation of all CALPER projects.

Graduate Assistants 2009-2010:

Mary Kathryn Malone , a PhD student in Applied Linguistics, has been a research assistant with CALPER since 2006. She has worked primarily on the Study Abroad Project, but also on the ALP bibliography and other web resources offered by CALPER. Her own research focuses on sociopragmatic competence and identity in advanced learners of French.



Project Associates:

Carolina Amador Moreno is a Research Assistant in CALPER's Corpus project.
Julie A. Belz directed CALPER's project on "Computer-mediated Intercultural Interaction" from 2002-2006. She is Associate Professor of English - Applied Linguistics at Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI).
Viktoria Driagina-Hasko was graduate research assistant (2003-2006) at CALPER while doing her doctoral work in the Department of Applied Linguistics at Penn State. She is currently Assistant Professor in the Department of Language and Literacy Education at the University of Georgia.

Jane Evison is a member of the School of English Studies, University of Nottingham, UK. She was a Research Associate in the CALPER "Learner Corpora" project from 2002-2006.
Kathleen Farrell-Whitworth was a Research Assistant in CALPER's "Study Abroad" project from 2002-2003. She is now a Lecturer in French at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Ofra Inbar is the coordinator of the MA TESOL program at the School of Education at Tel-Aviv University and the chair of the English as a Foreign Language Department at Beit Berl Teachers' College. She was a Research Associate in CALPER's "Assessment" project from 2003-2006.
Aneta Pavlenko is Professor at the College of Education at Temple University, Philadelphia. She directed CALPER's Russian project from 2002-2006.
Elana Shohamy is Professor of Language Education in the School of Education at Tel Aviv University. She directed CALPER's "Assessment" project from 2002-2006.
