The tasks in this chapter address the topic of narrative proficiency in Russian as a second language. How can one construct an effective story or a personal narrative? What are some of the components of such narratives? Are there certain caveats that learners of Russian should be mindful of when creating their stories? The tasks in this chapter address the above question from both theoretical and practical perspectives. They are based on the corpora, i.e. collections of "real" narratives told by native Russian speakers and American learners of Russian. The readers are offered opportunities for a contrastive comparison of stories told by the two speaker groups as well as awareness-raising tasks and theoretical explanations guiding the readers to discover the skills behind effective story-telling. The chapter also contains communicative tasks which encourage story-telling and reflection on narrative mastery in group- and pair-work.
